Keyword research is super important in any platform. Toutefois, the way the keyword research works in ASO – is bit different than how it works in SEO.
There are three areas where you can primarily get the keyword ideas:
- Autosuggestions.
- Description of your competitors’ app (this includes, titre, short and long description).
- Commentaires
Here are some differences between keyword research in SEO vs ASO.
- There’s no equivalent to SEO keyword planner to ASO.
- Your options in terms of keywords are very limited – given that there’s a limited estate (~ 650 words or 4,000 characters that you can use in your description).
- All the users are app based – so autosuggestions are super important.
Can autosuggestions determine the importance of the keyword?
Given that you have a root keyword, autosuggestions can give you a pretty good idea of it’s relative importance.
Autosuggestions for the root keyword – Mutual fund.
Donc, what does the auto suggestion on Playstore imply?
In the above example, it means that the keyword mutual fund app is selected more often than the keyword mutual fund tracker whenever a person is searching for a mutual fund.
This is a priceless piece of information. By going through some patterns, you can easily prioritise the keywords. You can get app autosuggestions on Appvector – for any country, and in any language and export that into csv as well.

Extracting Keywords from Competitor’s Description.
We’ve tinkered with a lot of algorithms to tinker with keyword extraction, until we wrote a very sophisticated algorithm for keyword extraction – specifically for apps.
Any keyword extraction algorithm – gives you all the valuable keywords that are present in a piece of text. Toutefois, we wanted to go beyond that, and prioritise important keywords. And second was primarily about automating the collection of the keywords – whenever a competitor changes the description etc.
Appvector’s keyword extraction feature allows you to extract keywords from your competitors in a breeze.
Third area where you can get the keyword ideas is by looking at the reviews – both of your app and that of competitors.
At the time of writing this, we are building a feature for the same, which is expected to go live by February 2023. Toutefois, until then, you can ETL the Appvector data into your tool, either via API or our ETL connector and do a very thorough analysis there.
